Historical Sketch In 1983, the Electoral Congress of the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) took place in Poznań. Concurrently, the 1st International Chess Tournament for the Poznań Cup was organized. The venue was the Railwaymans Cultural Center, marking the beginning of international chess tournaments history in the capital of Wielkopolska. The Poznań Cup was contested annually until 1987. After a few years break, in 1995, Janusz Woda and the members of the District Chess Union revived the international chess tournaments in Poznań. Renowned grandmasters like Ulf Andersson (Sweden) participated, turning it into a festival. In 1996, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the District Chess Union, 151 players from four countries competed in a tournament held at the Railway Technical School sports hall. Subsequently played at the College of Social Skills, then at the University of Economics, the event has now moved to the Poznań University of Technology for the second consecutive year. With a new spacious venue and positive feedback from players, their comfort remains a top priority for organizers. Maciej Cybulski, the director of the XXXII Chess Festival in Poznań, emphasized the tournaments international character with over 200 players from seven countries participating. The events success is attributed to favorable scheduling, promotional efforts supported by local authorities, and slight rule adjustments based on player feedback. The XXXII Chess Festival in Poznań employs a Swiss system, allowing each player 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move, with games predicted to last around four hours. The tournament concludes with the Wielkopolska Blitz Chess Championship at the Universitys Cultural Center, offering live coverage on www.chessmanager.com.
